NPS Asst. Dustin Duve will give a walking tour presentation of the Natural Path Sanctuary. Meet at the bur oak tree near the red packing shed at the Farley Center at 9:50 a.m.. Please wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Please check back on the facebook page for any changes due to the weather.

4:00-5:00 Natural Path Sanctuary Tour- Optional

Angie Buchanan/Certified Death Midwife and Instructor will offer a workshop that incorporates a grief portion (grief & anticipatory grief) in a talk about home funerals, teaching how to care for our Beloved Dead, demonstrate a couple different ways to shroud, have the attendees contribute to an art project – decorating a cardboard coffin…and explain why being involved at this level can help lighten the burden of grief by providing resolution.

BIO: Angie Buchanan
Reverend Angie Buchanan is the Founder and Spiritual Director of Earth Traditions, and of Gaia’s Womb, an interfaith spirituality group that has been producing retreats for women since 1998. With an education in Religious Studies, Angie was first ordained as a minister in 2001. She is an activist for religious freedom, a spiritual counselor, and a rites of passage celebrant, also currently serving as a Spiritual Advisor for students at the University of Chicago. She has developed a training program in Death Midwifery that provides hands-on, intensive classes for inclusive, compassionate end-of-life care, grief work, and family directed ecologically sensitive funerals. She served on the Board of Trustees for the Parliament of World Religions from 2002 – 2010 and is active emerita.

Natural Path Sanctuary – A Day with the NPS staff

Director Shedd Farley, Senior NPS Asst. Kalev Kristjuhan and NPS Asst. Dustin Duve will host the day with a tour and workshops. Light refreshments will be served.

This event will take place OUTDOORS and a good portion will take place walking in the Sanctuary. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your water bottles.

This event will take place RAIN OR SHINE.

Burials happen year around in snow, rain or sun.

1:00-1:10 – Intro by Director Shedd Farley
1:10-2:00 – NPS Tour
2:00-3:00 – Shroud Board Workshop*/Mock Burial Workshop**
3:00-4:00 – Mock Burial Workshop/Shroud Board Workshop
4:00-5:00 – Meet with NPS Staff

Why are bodies called “stiffs”? I don’t know either, because they aren’t! That’s where shroud boards come in! Learn the ins and outs of the simple design, construction and use of this essential shroud burial device.

** Mock Burial Workshop

“Participants have the opportunity to learn what the green burial process entails by participating in a simulated version of it. This workshop includes Q&A with a Natural Path Sanctuary Cemetarian, pallbearing and even lowering “dead” weight into a grave.”
