Natural Path Sanctuary – Mock Burial Workshop

Director Shedd Farley, Cemeterian Dustin Duve will host the day with a Natural Path Sanctuary Mock Burial. Shroud demonstration by Natural Path Sanctuary Board Member Brenda Prorok who is also a Funeral Director at Ryan Funeral Home.

“Participants have the opportunity to learn what the green burial process entails by participating in a simulated version of it. This workshop includes Q&A with a Natural Path Sanctuary Cemetarian, pallbearing and even lowering “dead” weight into a grave.”

This event will take place OUTDOORS and a good portion will take place walking in the Sanctuary. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your water bottles.

This event will take place RAIN OR SHINE.
Burials happen year around in snow, rain or sun.

Natural Path Sanctuary (NPS) Rules and Regulations Presentation presented by NPS Cemeterians

The Natural Path Sanctuary promotes a legacy of care and respect for the earth through choosing a natural burial. We recognize that death is not always easy to accept, whether anticipated or unanticipated, and all involved with the Natural Path Sanctuary believe that there is healing in the practice of a natural-life sustaining burial.

The Natural Path Sanctuary is committed to family and community friendly burials with as minimal of an impact on the environment as possible. It is our desire to preserve the natural beauty of the land in life and in death.

Embalming
Outer burial containers and liners
Biodegradable containers and coverings
Cremation Remains
Grave Markers
Planting of Flowers, plants, shrubs and trees
Floral Tributes and Decorations
Size of Memorial gathering

Our rules are based on our desire that people buried here will be a part of the natural path of life and death, buried amongst the trees and the plants.

BIPOC BIRDING CLUB OF WISCONSIN
The BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin creates safe spaces for people of color in the outdoors through outdoor birding activities and outdoor experiences. Individuals and families of all ages and at any level of birding experience are invited and encouraged to join us.

About the Club: The BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin was established in 2021 as a community of people of color who love the outdoors and the birds and beauty of natural Wisconsin and wish to connect with others who share the same passion.

While the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin seeks to promote outdoor birding activities and outdoor experiences for people of color, anyone who shares and supports our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access for all are welcome to join this group. We are family-friendly, and people of all ages are invited and encouraged to join us.

Experience and knowledge are not required. What is important is having a desire and willingness to see and learn about Wisconsin’s birds, animals, and plants and explore its beauty with others who share the same passion and curiosity in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.

Meet Jeff Galligan – BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin
Dr. Jeff Galligan is a co-founder of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin, is a member of the Badgerland Bird Alliance’s board of directors, and is the director of the TRIO Student Support Services and Men of Excellence programs at Madison College. He has been an avid birder for decades and believes there needs to be a birding community for people of color along with more inclusive representation of BIPOC in the conservation and stewardship conversation in Wisconsin. It is his dream to inspire young people of color to see themselves in STEM careers at an early age and hopes the BBC can be a catalyst in that endeavor here in the greater Madison area and across Wisconsin.

Forest Bathing with Becky Baumbach

Forest bathing, also known as “shinrin-yoku” in Japanese, is the practice of immersing oneself in the natural environment of a forest. It involves slowing down, engaging the senses, and simply being present in the forest. The concept emphasizes the therapeutic effects of spending time in nature and has been linked to reduced stress, improved mood, and overall well-being.

Join Becky Baumbach, a certified spiritual guide and outdoor companion, on a forest bathing walk in the Natural Path Sanctuary. Be prepared to walk slowly in the woods, bring a mat or folding stool for spending time in one place, and bring something to write on, if desired. Most important, bring an open heart.
