Janet Parker

Janet Parker launched the business incubator for farmers in 2009 with Gene Farley, a core group of immigrant farmers and advisors, and major funding from the USDA. The incubator provides land, shared equipment, training and marketing support for vegetable growers, particularly new immigrants. Janet and incubator staff helped the growers set up systems to share the land and equipment, as well as install hoophouses, coolers and irrigation. They also formed a farmer cooperative, achieved organic certification, and created community supported agriculture (CSAs) for marketing – major new milestones for immigrant growers in Wisconsin.
