Jenny and Chandy have lived in Madison since 1997. He is from Bengaluru, India, where he studied agriculture mainly learning to grow rice paddy, tropical vegetables and fruits. He came to the U.S. in 1993 to pursue his graduate studies at the University in Athens GA, where he met his wife Jen. Jenny is originally from New Jersey. She has a passion for cooking vegetarian dishes with homegrown vegetables using recipes from across the world. They have dabbled in growing their own vegetables in community gardens. Jen has volunteered on farms throughout Europe as a member of the organization Willing Workers on Organic Farms. They always dreamed of starting their own organic farm and were excited to learn about the Farley Center Collaborative Farm. Although the first glimpse of Farley Center occurred on the sad note of attending the funeral of their dearest friend Mindy.
They began farming at the Farley Center in 2017 with lots of passion and very little field experience in market gardening. The staff at Farley Center have trained them in organic farming practices and continue to guide them through the process of creating a business plan. Over the years Jen and Chandy have gained more expertise in growing organic vegetables that are high in culinary value. These include specialty onions, garlic, fingerling potatoes, peppers, fresh tomatoes, sweet corn, Asian greens, herbs and more. Recently, they also started raising honeybees. At GaniMoon Farm, they focus on growing healthy vegetables for consumers at farmers markets and area restaurants.
