2019 Earth Dance Artist

Dawn Wians
Between Earth and Heaven

This is my first environmental installation. This collection of smaller assemblages explores the parallel between nature and the human experience. I invite you to view my creative process on my blog at dawnwiansart.com/blog. My paintings and poetic writings inspired by this exploration are available for sale at the Art Reception on Sept. 14, 2019.

Bio
Trained as an interior designer, Dawn is drawn to materials, the form they take and the way we experience them. From a young age, her favorite things to do are gardening and making art. She uses nature as a material reference to make sense of and give meaning to her work as an artist. With creative curiosity, she imagines new ways of seeing, feeling, being and doing; and pushes experimental uses of materials and mediums forward into abstract images and objects. She encourages others to experience creativity by sharing her art and by teaching workshops.

For the Earth Dance installation, she is creating small assemblages of found objects and interconnecting them into a symbolic and poetic story of our human dance in the space between earth and heaven. This environmental ‘patchwork’ is reminiscent of the stories of human experience stitched into folklore quilts.

Materials: found objects, wax offered by bees that visit the center grounds, pin oak leaves from my garden, branches and wild grape vine from the sanctuary floor, grasses from the prairie and woven vegetable fiber (jute).
