gitchee-goomee nest

Because I have visited the shores of Lake Superior for the past three summers and have another trip plan to Little Girl’s Point at Ironwood Michigan in mid-August, I decided to do a small dedication to Lake Superior. The modest piece comprises a nest, which holds lake stones from the shore at Little Girl’s Point, and amethyst from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I added an agate from Little Girl’s Point in honor of my mother, who also loved visiting areas around Lake Superior.

Bio
Working with metal, beads, wood and paint, my art is influenced by the natural world, by found objects and by industrial landscapes. Recycling is very important to me and I use the more interesting found vintage and used items in my art whenever possible. These elements become important facets of my unique mobiles, collages, assemblages, objets tableau and jewelry.

Almost everything used in my jewelry and assemblages is recycled and put to this fresh use, from deconstructed vintage jewelry, to older chains and found objects. If a small, interesting stone with a hole in it presents itself, I will use it in a design.

Designing jewelry using these materials in the Steampunk style, therefore, became an appropriate, inspiring pursuit. My art education, including classes at the University of Wisconsin, Edgewood College, MATC and various art workshops and seminars, is ongoing, my outlook is toward the unusual, and my inclinations are eclectic.
