2019 Earth Dance Artist

Katrina Krueger

Elemental Exchange (Katrina Krueger and Billy Morgan)

Incorporating aspects from earth, water, air, and fire, Elemental Exchange represents the synchronized dance each element performs together in creating the building blocks of our earthly existence. Each element provides a very distinct role in the choreography of earth’s dance. By choosing to honor and utilized each element’s characteristics appropriately, we are able to create a harmonized exchange between people, animals, and earth.

The element earth is represented by the use of wooden sticks, burlap, twine, cheese cloth, and the color green. Earth is the feet grounded to the floor, moving side-to-side, stepping to the rhythm of music.

Water is represented by shapes that mimic jellyfish moving through water and the color blue. Water is the body swaying back and forth, in sync with the beat.

Air is represented by wind sweeping through each delicate figure, promoting movement and flow. Air lifts you off your seat and propels you to the dance floor.

Fire is represented by sunlight shining and illuminating the colors of the cloth. Fire is also represented by the colors red and yellow. Fire is the burning desire to move freely and unapologetically as you dance the night away.

(Disguised 5th Element: According to Captain Planet the fifth element is heart. It is in our hearts to promote and participate in activities that embody sustainability and positive influences in our community and on earth. Putting our passion for the arts and environmentalism into this sculpture was extremely rewarding and in doing so we love that we are able to share it with others.)
