Praise Song
Beverly Gordon
The praises or prayers are held in the heart, and come from different elements of the earth, call and bow to all forms of life.
Beverly Gordon's work is a deep engagement with the natural world. Much of it involves putting things together in unexpected new ways and draws on the detritus of nature–materials such as bone, shell, barks, kelp and bark. This was her fourth installation at the Farley Center. She is retired from 30 years as a professor in Design Studies at UW-Madison, where she taught classes relating to design and our cultural environment. She is a writer (most recent book: Textiles: The Whole Story: Uses, Meanings, Significance), and a visual artist whose work typically involves re-contextualization—repositioning and reusing images in collage.
