Safe

Cynthia Reynolds

To all the lonely, the pilgrims for truth and love, the heart-broken, the homeless, the bereft among us... there is sanctuary, there is hope. This art construction is about safe places and markings that speak of safety. The light green textile markers bear signs for things like “clean water”, “a good meal here”, “good people here”. The pink markers bear the Chinese symbol for sanctuary, because all people from all cultures need to feel safe, need to know where they can find sanctuary if they need it. The small house bears the marking “good people here, good meal here” above an always open door.

Cynthia Reynolds works in layers and textures with canvas, all sorts of remnants, fibers, paint, new, vintage and found cloth, allowing her to create a metaphor for all the beautiful complexity that makes up life and the human experience.
